SUMMARY:Immortal Divine: An exhibition of paintings by Christina Stagg
DESCRIPTION:Immortal Divine is an exhibition of seven heavenly-inspired paintings by local artist Christina Stagg.\nDrawing on the language of the Old Masters, Christina references Medieval and Renaissance techniques in the form of egg tempera on gesso panels. The luminosity and translucency of the paints and medium translate perfectly into her other major preoccupations and influences, namely the balance and symbolism of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the discipline of the Neoclassical movement.\nThis collection celebrates the enduring relevance of traditional practice while allowing it to evolve in new and meaningful ways.\nChristina left the UK thirty years ago to work in Guernsey as a compliance professional. Since leaving corporate finance a year ago, she now works as a non executive director for the Guernsey Arts Commission and is a full-time painter.\nA law graduate from the University of Exeter and winner of the prestigious Drawing Prize from Wimbledon School of Art, Christina also spent a year working as an assistant valuer at Bonhams Fine Art Auctioneers in London, specialising in Oriental ceramics and works of art, before relocating to Guernsey.\nThe collection, Immortal Divine, marks Christina’s first solo exhibition in Guernsey.\nThe main aim of the exhibition is to ignite a revival of interest in the traditions and divinity of Renaissance inspired art, and in the language of the Old Masters through craftsmanship and technique.\n
