SUMMARY:Priaulx Library annual garden exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Priaulx Library garden exhibition is returning with cartoons and caricatures bringing humour this summer.\nEach year, the annual exhibition, which attracts thousands of visitors, features some of the Library’s rarely seen treasures. The theme is chosen by the Library’s team who spend hours selecting the right images and researching more information.\n“Choosing a theme is something the team loves doing and we love to see people enjoying the exhibition. Our archive is full of satire and silliness which poke fun at local celebrities, provide social and political commentary and show that in even in the darkest of times, Guernsey men and women still liked to laugh,” said chief librarian Sue Laker.\n“What we think people will particularly enjoy is that concerns about inflation, roadworks, relations with Europe and even questionable States’ spending, resonate down the decades.\n“We look forward to welcoming islanders and tourists to the Priaulx Library over the summer and thank Titan Wealth for its long-standing support.”\nThe exhibition features artwork from titles no longer around including the Radical Island Press, Chit-Chat and Guernsey Attic Press and some of the much-loved work of Alan Guppy which featured in the Guernsey Evening Press and provided an affectionate, good-humoured commentary on the political problems of the 1970s.\nThe exhibition, which will open next week until early September, is free to attend although QR codes have been added to the board to encourage visitors to make a donation towards the ongoing work of the Priaulx Library.\n“This is the 12th exhibition we have supported although our first as Titan Wealth. We want to thank the incredible Priaulx Library team for all their hard work and hope visitors find the cartoons, caricatures and captions both amusing and interesting. We’re sure that some of the topics covered will resonate with islanders today as much as they did decades ago,” said Robin Newbould, CEO of Titan Wealth.\n
