SUMMARY:Cobo Bay Balcony gigs – Raisy money for cancer charities
DESCRIPTION:Live music returns to Cobo Bay as the Balcony Gigs make their return.\nThe six summertime gigs, which see visiting tribute acts and local bands take to the balcony, will this year raise money for MUG and Bright Tights having last year raised more than £9,000 for children’s charities Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation and Bright Beginnings Children’s Centre. The gigs, which are organised by Cobo Bay Hotel, are sponsored once again by Ravenscroft Capital, Ravenscroft Construction, Pula Limited and Randall’s.\n“The Cobo Bay Balcony Gigs are loved by so many; we have islanders booking tables a year in advance and visitors planning their holidays around the gig dates. We have an amazing line up planned for this summer with some of the UK’s best tribute acts and Guernsey’s most talented musicians,” said organiser David Nussbaumer. “My thanks to Ravenscroft, Ravenscroft Construction, Pula Limited and Randall’s for their incredible support and for choosing two fantastic charities who make such a difference to islanders at times when they need it the most through the support they give.”\n\nThe first gig of the year sees a tribute to Ed Sheeran supported by an Elvis Tribute from 3pm on Sunday. On 26th May, there is a tribute to Madness who will be supported by local band The Rubix. The Big Band Collective return to the balcony on 15th June with a tribute to Oasis and support from City Limits on 13th July. There are two gigs in August with a tribute to AC/DC with support from Neon Fire on 3rd August and then a tribute to Dolly Parton with support from Element 6 on 24th August.\nVolunteers from MUG and Bright Tights will alternate being at the gigs.\n“MUG’s aim is to raise awareness of prostate bowel, testicular and skin cancer and we have raised more than a million pounds to fund medical equipment and training, cancer awareness and education and youth sports. We are honoured to be asked to be a beneficiary of this year’s Balcony Gigs and look forward to talking to islanders, handing out sun cream and selling reusable pint glasses raising awareness and funds for the charity,” said Tony Tostevin from MUG.\nBright Tights supports islanders with gynaecological cancers with practical, financial and emotional help to ensure that no one faces gynae cancer alone. They promote the early detection of gynae cancers by educating people of all ages of the early symptoms. For example, by supplying reusable period products issued by the SHARE (sexual health and relationship education) team in schools to help teach young people about what is normal. As well as fund vital research\n“The Balcony Gigs are one of Guernsey’s summer highlights and it is an honour to have been chosen as a beneficiary. Our team of volunteers will be available on 26th May, 13th July and 24th August to talk to islanders about symptoms and explain more about the support we can provide but we are always available on 07781 434550 for anyone needing us,” said chair Dr Jo Le Noury.\n
