SUMMARY:Paper sculptures family workshop – lunchtime session
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by Gigi’s MAPS workshop delivered to Jersey College Prep, this workshop explores Geography, looking at geographical regions and identifying key topographical features. This workshop will consider scale, structure and composition to create hills, mountains, coasts and rivers with paper.\nGigi Cooke\n“As a designer, my passion lies in exploring materiality and processes. I am driven by a philosophy that centres on elevating human interaction through sensitive design. While wanting to create furniture that combines function and style but with sustainable credentials that live up to those claims. Growing up in Jersey, sowed the seed for that sustainable mindset; Jersey is truly beautiful with rich biodiversity, which not only provides inspiration for my designs but also instils in me a fire to create products that are sensitive to how we live and that limit our impact on the planet.”\nMAPS is an island wide project that seeks to build partnerships between professional artists and local schools. MAPS artist educators have devised and delivered unique art projects to twenty eight schools. Each of the artists brought with them a strong foundation in art & design and a commitment to their own creative practice which allowed them to share skills, knowledge and a passion for the visual arts to the classroom.\nDuring the summer months the artists and teachers were asked to explore paper through a series of workshops where they took the role as students. This process provided an opportunity to experiment with new techniques, explore the curriculum and encouraged participants reflect on the process of learning.\n
