SUMMARY:AI and healthcare
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to be a focal point of research, debate, and conversation. Guernsey’s Oxford University Society is delighted to announce it has secured one of the world’s foremost experts on the subject to speak at an upcoming event: AI and its Applications to Healthcare.\nThe talk will be delivered by Professor Lord Lionel Tarassenko, a renowned Oxford academic and entrepreneur specialising in AI, machine learning, and biomedical engineering. Healthcare is one of the sectors poised to experience the most significant transformations through AI, with huge potential for value creation.\nProfessor Tarassenko’s groundbreaking work has had a major impact on the management of acute diseases. His early career as an engineer involved developing jet engine monitoring software used by Rolls-Royce, and more recently, he has founded four Oxford University spin-out companies. A good example is Oxehealth, which has created the first patient monitoring platform for mental health hospitals.\nA highly respected figure in his field, Professor Tarassenko holds numerous awards and is the author of three books and numerous academic papers. In May 2024, he was elevated to the House of Lords. He is also the Founding President of Reuben College, Oxford, the university’s newest college, which is dedicated to tackling 21st-century challenges.\nThe talk, which is part of a series of lectures organised by the Oxford University Society, will last for approximately 45 minutes, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. The event will be moderated by Sir Richard Collas, former Bailiff of Guernsey and himself an Oxford graduate.\nThe event will be hosted by The Ladies’ College and is open to all. Sixth form and GCSE students with an interest in AI, medicine, or entrepreneurship are invited to attend free of charge. This is a rare opportunity for islanders to learn from a global authority in AI, healthcare innovation, and entrepreneurial collaboration between academia and industry.\nEvent Details:\n\nSpeaker: Professor Lord Lionel Tarassenko\nModerator: Sir Richard Collas\n\n
