SUMMARY:Community language celebration and ‘Learning bites’ film launch
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss our community language celebration at Jersey Library this Saturday 1 March from 10am to 12pm.\nThe event will launch our new ‘Learning bites’ – a series of short film clips to support the development of children’s home languages for parents, schools, and practitioners.\nCome along and hear stories in different languages, help create some memorable artwork and enjoy delicious food from some of our communities in Jersey.\n‘Learning bites’ are a series of short films created as a resource for parents and schools to refer to for guidance on supporting multilingual learners with their linguistic development in both their home and English language skills. They were commissioned by the Multilingual Advisory Team.\nThe short films tie into the Government drive to promote home language development across all Government of Jersey schools. It is well documented that developing the home language alongside learning English benefits both languages. Current figures show that currently 29 percent of students across mainstream Government of Jersey schools are multilingual learners. These films will go some way to inform and guide parents, carers, schools, and the wider community, and provide reassurance to our multilingual learners themselves and their families regarding the support available to them across all Government of Jersey schools.\nLaunching these shorts films shows a commitment to inclusive practice not only within the Multilingual Advisory Team, but also in alignment with wider practice across Education to develop all members of our school communities to fulfil their potential.\n
