SUMMARY:IoD Spring Seminar
DESCRIPTION:The Guernsey Branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) will focus its 2025 Spring Seminar on the pressing need for change and economic growth.\nThe IoD recently published a report on Guernsey’s social capital, which highlighted a trend of stagnation and its impact on the island’s future economic growth, wellbeing and prosperity. The annual event, formerly known as the Mid Term, builds on this theme and will take place on Wednesday, 26 March, from 7:45 am to 10 am at St Pierre Park.\nThe seminar aims to address concerns that Guernsey is stagnating and that more collaborative action is needed to tackle emerging issues, threats, and challenges, as highlighted in the social capital report from the Convention last October.\nWe will start with a recorded introduction from Tristan Claridge, founder of the Social Capital Research Group and researcher for the IoD Guernsey branch’s 2024 Social Capital Report. His introduction will set the tone for the morning’s discussions.\nAndrew Doyle, author of Reinvention Island, will be the keynote speaker. In his book, Mr Doyle examines how Guernsey has transformed its economy seven times over the past 500 years. The most recent reinvention, the finance industry, established Guernsey as a globally recognised ‘brand’ and is now 60 years old. In his book, Mr Doyle explores the rise and fall of its six predecessors and the lessons they offer for securing the island’s future prosperity.\nFollowing the keynote, Andrew Doyle will sit down with transformation specialist Charlotte Light for a fireside chat on reinvention and economic resilience, key themes in addressing concerns about Guernsey’s stagnation. Drawing on her extensive experience across industries, Charlotte will share practical insights on navigating change, fostering collaboration, and building adaptive strategies to tackle the emerging challenges highlighted in the Social Capital Report from last October’s Convention.\nThe event is supported by headline sponsor Carey Olsen, breakfast sponsor Newgate Bovill, speaker sponsor Core Fund Services, and event sponsors Grant Thornton and Polygon.\n
