SUMMARY:From threat to thrive: Toxic behaviours and psychological safety
DESCRIPTION:This IOM Chamber of Commerce workshop, presented by Christina Hutchinson from Mountain High Coaching, and arranged by the Chamber’s Positive Health & Wellbeing Forum, addresses the often negative impact on health and wellbeing brought about by difficult relationships or a toxic culture in the workplace. It’s the second workshop in our series on addressing stress in the workplace.\nMany of us have been involved in workplace dramas associated with things like having a difficult colleague who doesn’t do their share of the work, or trying to do our best in a blame culture, or navigating harsh gossip, or someone rolling their eyes when we share a new idea, or not being able to admit we made a mistake because we fear punishment or ridicule, or being interrupted mid-sentence, or someone taking credit for our hard work.\nThese examples of drama, big, small and subtle, are normal, they’re part of being human, simply because our negative reactions may be a reflection of how we’ve learned to survive and feel safe in an environment that feels threatening to us in some way.\nBut it can take its toll on our mental and physical health and wellbeing if this is the environment we’re subjected to over an extended period of time, affecting our productivity, creativity and positivity. And it costs the company dearly, in financial terms due to lost or inefficient productivity, lost or poor collaboration and innovation, and lost talent.\nSo how do we start to change our behaviours to something more positive, to build work environments and relationships that feel psychologically safe, that ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive? And what is psychological safety?\nThis interactive, thought-provoking workshop will give you insights and practical tips and practices for moving from a place of threat to a place of thrive.\nJoin us!\nThis event is open to both Chamber Members and the wider business community.\n
