SUMMARY:Liberation Gala
DESCRIPTION:Join the Jersey Chamber Orchestra at St. Helier Methodist Centre for a powerful and evocative concert marking Jersey’s 80th anniversary of Liberation. With music from the great films about the war from Dambusters to the Great Escape, to the Batle of Britain, this special event pays tribute to the courage, resilience, and spirit of the island during its darkest times through an inspiring blend of classical music and wartime themes.\nRenowned international soloist Alexander Sitkovetsky takes center stage to perform Dvořák’s Violin Concerto in A minor. Rich in Czech folk melodies and virtuosic brilliance, this concerto is a masterpiece of the violin repertoire. Alexander Sitkovetsky is one of the great soloists of our time. A multiple award winner in Europe and America a recent performance with the Halle Orchestra was described as “his performance was electric”.\nThe Jersey Chamber Choir, will deliver performances of choral works by John Ireland who was evacuated from Jersey in 1940, including the deeply reflective Greater Love hath No Man and the serene Holy Boy. These works are programmed thanks to the support of the John Ireland Trust. The choral pieces will also feature Music in Action Young Artist Omara Silvester, showcasing the exceptional talent nurtured by Music in Action.\nThe programme transitions to iconic wartime film scores, celebrating the music that captured the heroism and sacrifice of the era. Highlights include Ron Goodwin’s Battle of Britain, Eric Coates’ rousing Dambusters March, and the nostalgic 633 Squadron. A stirring reminder of the bravery and determination of those who lived through war.\nThis emotional and inspiring concert, set against the backdrop of Jersey’s Liberation celebrations, invites you to reflect on the island’s journey while celebrating the enduring power of music to unite and inspire. Join us for an unforgettable evening filled with beauty, remembrance, and hope.\nThank you for joining the Jersey Chamber Orchestra in this tribute to the island’s past, and to those who gave so much for our freedom. The Jersey Chamber Choir is directed by Michael Wynne. The orchestra is directed by leading international condictor Eamonn Dougan.\n
