SUMMARY:Speed Hustings for election of States Members
DESCRIPTION:We have 9 candidates for 5 seats which will be contested at the General Election on the 16th of November.\nIn order for members of the community to engage with the candidates, we have taken a novel approach, replicating the tried and tested ‘speed dating’ format. This will give the members of the community the opportunity of asking questions of each of the candidates. This will take place in the Island Hall and the format will be as follows:\n\nThere will be 9 tables, numbered 1-9\nAt each table there will be 5 seats (more if required) for members of the community to sit, facing the candidate\nThe community members will take their seats as they arrive and fill the seats at each table\nThe President will open the proceedings\nEach candidate will draw a number and in numerical order have 1 minute to give a brief introduction about themselves\nThe Candidates will then move to their corresponding numbered table\nThe President will ring a bell and the candidate will have ten minutes to answer questions from the members of the community sitting at that table\nAfter the ten minutes, the President will ring a bell and ask the candidates to move to the next table\nOnce the candidates have taken their turn at each table, if time permits, the candidates will be invited, in numerical order to give a brief closing statement.\nThe members of the community are asked to arrive between 6.45 -7pm to ensure a prompt start.\n\nWe hope that this approach will give members of the community the opportunity to get a real sense of what each candidate offers.\n
