DESCRIPTION:The Institute of Directors (IoD) Next Gen Forum is excited to announce its upcoming workshop focusing on the challenges and opportunities for bridging politics and business for the next generation of business leaders and decision-makers in Guernsey.\nTaking place on 16th October from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at Walkers, this event offers a valuable opportunity for emerging leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals interested in how the government operates and also how it has evolved in Guernsey.\nTom Zierer, the chair of the IoD Next Gen Committee said: “With Guernsey’s next general election set for 18th June 2025, it is imperative and timely to offer future leaders an opportunity to have insight into how our unique government works.  Politics and Business do not operate in silo and as the next generation of business leaders, engagement and understanding in our political system will be key.”\nThe workshop will be an interactive Q&A panel discussion with Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, President of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure, Matt Fallaize, Senior Reporter at Guernsey Press, and Shelaine Green, Chair at Women in Public Life Guernsey.\nThe discussion will cover Guernsey’s political landscape and machinery of government, focusing on the impact of upcoming elections, an education segment on Guernsey’s unique political framework, how policy changes affecting businesses are proposed and approved, and the role that the next generation will play in progressing and innovating politics in Guernsey.\nModerator:\n\nJames Mroch – IoD Next Gen Committee member\n\nPanellists:\nDeputy Lindsay de Sausmarez – President of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure \nLindsay was first elected to the States in 2016 and has served on a number of committees since, including as President of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure and Vice-President of the Committee for Employment & Social Security since 2020. Her mandates span a wide range of policy areas, from housing, climate change, energy, waste, transport and agriculture to welfare policy and social inclusion.\nMatt Fallaize – Senior Reporter, Guernsey Press. \nMatt Fallaize is a Senior Reporter at the Guernsey Press, where he primarily covers local politics for the news section and conducts in-depth interviews for the features pages. He also co-hosts the Guernsey Press Politics Podcast. Matt’s work is focused on delivering insightful and engaging political coverage, offering readers and listeners a clear understanding of the developments within the States of Guernsey. His reporting plays a key role in holding the island’s States committees and deputies accountable to the public they serve.\nShelaine Green – Chair of Women in Public Life Guernsey \nShelaine leads Women in Public Life, a group that inspires and supports the women of Guernsey to consider standing for all forms of public office. She has a particular interest in encouraging women’s engagement with the States which includes running a large Politics WhatsApp group.\n
