SUMMARY:An evening with Darren Edwards [postponed]
DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately this event has been postponed. We will keep you updated when we receive a new date. \nDarren Edwards, the first wheelchair user to complete the gruelling World Marathon Challenge, will be delivering an uplifting talk about inner resilience, strength and his experiences as a disabled adventurer when he speaks to an audience in Jersey next month.\nThe former soldier and best-selling author is no stranger to overcoming adversity. Darren broke his back in two places in a near fatal climbing accident in North Wales and is paralysed from the chest down. After an arduous rehabilitation regime, he embarked on his first challenge to kayak from Land’s End to John O’ Groats, leading a team of injured ex-servicemen, and he became the first person with a disability to complete the 777 challenge, seven marathons in seven days on seven consecutive continents. He is also the founder of Adaptive Expeditions, which empowers people with life-changing injuries and disabilities to push their boundaries through transformative expeditions and adventures.\nAn Evening with Darren Edwards is due to be held at the Pomme D’Or on Tuesday 16th July and will be the first fund raising event for Rock2Recovery Jersey (R2RJ) since the local branch of the fund raising team was established earlier this year. R2RJ brings together serving members of the armed forces, veterans and 999 communities to help and coach them if they are suffering from anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder related to their time in service.\nLee Madden, Chair of Rock2Recovery Jersey, said: “I saw Darren speak at an event in the UK and I was hugely impressed by his story and his refusal to allow his injuries to stop him doing what he loves. If you listen to him speak you will be caught up by his honesty and passion for helping others to succeed. His story is all about the indomitable human spirit in the face of unimaginable challenges.”\nRock2Recovery so far this year have completed 420 sessions which is 84 sessions per month or 20 sessions per week, and, with a permanent presence in the island, aims to help many more people from the Armed Forces, Veterans and 999 Communities.\n\nPictured: Darren Edwards, World Marathon Challenge\n
