SUMMARY:Remembrance Service
DESCRIPTION:National charity, the Fishermen’s Mission, has announced the locations and times for the very first National Fishing Remembrance Day services.\nAli Godfrey, Director of Business Development for the Fishermen’s Mission said: “It is an honour to be part of the National Fishing Remembrance Day. Planning and working with our maritime partners at Stella Maris and The Seafarers’ Charity to bring this important day together.”\nA service will be held this weekend Sunday May 12th from 15.30, on the end of the Albert Pier, St Helier harbour, for all those who would like to join in remembering all the fishermen who have lost their lives at sea.\nThe ceremony is scheduled to run for approximately half an hour starting with:\n\nA welcome from Jersey’s Environment Minister (Fishing and Rural portfolios)\nA prayer dedicated fishermen\nA reading of names of those fishermen lost at sea from our community\nThe laying of a wreath, by a family member of the crew of L’Ecume II\nA minute’s silence\nA solo version of “The Waving Fields” sung live by Kevin Pallot\nA poem\n\nHayley Hamlett from the Fishermen’s Mission added: “We are grateful to finally have a date to remember these brave individuals, to pause in silence and show our gratitude and respect for such a sacrifice. This is an opportunity to come together and remember every fisherman who has died in order to supply us with seafood.\n“This significant remembrance service will last for about half an hour, and your presence would be much appreciated. In Jersey we felt this ceremony should take place on the Albert Pier with the island’s fishing fleet in full view. Fishing remains one of the most dangerous peacetime occupations, any moment when we can recognise this is incredibly valuable.”\nIt is intended that this service will be held every year and that other locations will be added as time goes on.\nFree Parking will be provided on the Albert Pier in the area where the old terminal building was located.\n
