SUMMARY:Liberation Day family event at Castle Cornet
DESCRIPTION:Guernsey Arts will once again be working alongside Guernsey Museums to fill Castle Cornet with music, activities and entertainment to commemorate and celebrate the 79th anniversary of Guernsey’s liberation.\nLiberation Day activity at Castle Cornet forms part of a programme of events that take place across the Island, funded and organised by the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture.\nWith free entry from 10am until 5pm, a timetable of varied performances and activities has been arranged by Guernsey Arts for the whole community to enjoy. As in previous years, 1940s wear is welcome.\nThose who attend can reflect on the occupation and liberation of Guernsey in the quiet location of the South Battery, where visitors can take in recorded music of the 1940s as well as local poems, recorded specifically for this occasion. In addition, special screenings of Occupied will take place throughout the day in the intimate settings of the Ursela bunker.\nFamilies can also celebrate with a vibrant line up of music, theatre and dance. This includes performances from the Guernsey History in Action Company (who will transport you back in time with their story about the Guernsey Underground News Service), Natalie Thoumine with songs from the 1940s era, and the 2nd Guernsey Boys Brigade. There will also be a chance to dance about with B Creative Dance, and sing along with The Why Nots and Element 6.\nIn the Amherst room there will be arts and crafts activities available, including the opportunity to make your own peg doll with artist Penny Dawes, create your own ID card, and decorate your own celebratory flag.\nRefreshments will be available from Café Maeva throughout the day.\nJade Kershaw, Community & Public Realm Officer for Guernsey Arts: “Guernsey Arts are thrilled to again be arranging creative activities in the special settings of Castle Cornet. Guernsey Arts believes in using the Arts and creativity as a vehicle to help celebrate and reflect, something which is especially relevant for the Liberation of the Island.”\nHelen Glencross, Head of Heritage Services: “We are delighted to host this wonderful Liberation Day event, organised by Guernsey Arts, at Castle Cornet. Free entry will enable as many people as possible to take advantage of the fantastic musical line up and activities on offer.”\n
