SUMMARY:Liberation Day concert
DESCRIPTION:Organisers are delighted to be able to confirm details for the Liberation Day concert.\nThe event, which will start at 5pm on Crown Pier, will feature both local and visiting musicians and singers, encourages the community to come together in St Peter Port to celebrate.\nIslanders will be able to enjoy headline act ‘The Bombshells’, from the UK, perform a tailored set to pay homage to Liberation Day. The trio, dressed in authentic American Army attire, will perform hits from the 1930s, 40s and 50s, including Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Apple Tree, and Pennsylvania 6500.\nThe Glen Miller Sound of the Elastic Band and The Big Band Collective, both firm local favourites, complete the line up, with music from the 1940s up to the present day.\nThere will be food concessions and bars at the event, and seating will be available on a first come first served basis. Islanders are invited to dress in 1940s outfits or wear red, white and blue.\nDeputy Sue Aldwell, Member of the Committee for Education, Sport, and Culture, said: “The concert was first staged last year in response to an island-wide survey which highlighted the desire for more events that appeal to a wider range of ages. The event was a great success and, despite the rain, it was wonderful to see so many people singing and dancing to the wonderful live music. It felt like a nod to the wartime spirit that we had been commemorating and celebrating all day. Here’s hoping for better weather this year to match this fantastic event.”\nThe concert will be rounded off with the traditional fireworks at 9.15pm. This year, the display will take place from a new location at La Valette as the project to repair the bridge leading to Castle Cornet meant a change was needed.\n
