SUMMARY:Jersey Organ Day
DESCRIPTION:Jersey Organ Day – The King of Instruments in peril?\nSaturday 20th April is an international day celebrating the King of instruments, the Pipe Organ! Across the UK and Europe various events are taking place to showcase and grow interest in the instrument.\nThe Jersey Music Association will be celebrating the day in Jersey with an afternoon of performances, demonstrations, ‘have a go’ slots finishing with a concert given by sixth form organists from Guernsey and Jersey. These events will be taking place at the Town Church, the home of the largest pipe organ in Jersey. Co-ordinated by Linda Lowseck, Francis Murton and Michael Wynne, the Organ Day promises to be a great opportunity for everyone to experience the thrill and joy that comes from listening to and playing the King of Instruments.\nFrancis Murton, Chair of the Jersey Music Association said: “We are so pleased to be able to host this event here to raise the profile of the organ. We hope that through the hands-on sessions, we may encourage a few people to take up the organ.”\nAcross the island there are approximately 45 organs in various churches and buildings. As part of the celebrations the Association is organising a co-ordinated performance of Bach’s Toccata or Clarke’s Trumpet Voluntary across all these instruments at 12 noon. There are still some instruments in need of players, and the Association would love to hear from any pianists or former organists who would like to take part.\n\n
