SUMMARY:Accessible cycling at the park
DESCRIPTION:A team of organisers and volunteers have reached out to specific groups of people who might benefit from and enjoy the freedom of cycling in an outside location.\nAlex Costen from the Health Improvement Commission explained: “We ran a similar event earlier in the year at Beau Sejour inviting members of the public to try out different models of adapted tricycles – including one designed to safely hold a wheelchair with space for a second rider alongside.\n“We know for some people they don’t have many opportunities to get on a bike, so we’re pleased to have this further opportunity to let others experience the pleasure, freedom and health benefits that moving more and cycling can bring.”\nThe riders will be able to cycle around part of the park in a safely monitored circuit and a number of groups have already confirmed they will bring members along. If anyone else is also interested in taking part and trying a bike, they can contact Caroline Barby ( mailto:caroline.barby@gov.gg ) Active 8 Inclusion Officer, Sport and Recreation or Mrs Costen.\nThe bikes include a side by side tandem, an easy-rider trike as well as a standard ebike and are available thanks to Ian Browns, vanramm and with thanks to Go Charity who will help deliver them to the park.\n“This event will further work towards the aspiration of the Active 8 plan for sport; that everyone, regardless of age, ability or background, has the opportunity available to them to be active and participate in sport,” said Miss Barby.\nThe sessions will run from 9.30am until 11.30am on Tuesday 19th and Tuesday 26th September, with cyclists starting from the Folk and Costume Museum courtyard, heading in a clockwise loop around the smaller section of the park, returning past the café and back to the courtyard.\n
