DESCRIPTION:Do you have experience of living with a disability or long-term condition?\nDo you care for a family member or friend with a disability?\nSpeaking to people living with, and affected by disability the thing that comes up time and time again is being able to do the things others can do, to be able to access the same opportunities, to be listened to and be included.\nAt Enable Jersey we understand the value of listening to people with lived experience of disability and how this can contribute to meaningful change in Jersey and further afield.\nEnable Voice is a space, sometimes physical and at other times virtual, which is shared by people with first hand experience of living with a disability or life long condition, their family, friends and carers. We want to bring together the views and voices of those with experience to ensure that they are not only listened to but truly heard. By bringing together the voices of many, we hope to strengthen them and try to ensure that they are elevated into an arena where change can be made.\nWe want Enable Voice to contribute to many different spaces, to act as a safe and supported place to share experiences, speak to others and importantly to feel supported and not alone. We want the rich, first hand experiences of people living with long term conditions and disabilities to contribute to areas such as the planning of new services, adapting existing ones or offering support and guidance to organisations wanting to improve their inclusivity.\nWe believe it is essential that when people choose to share their experience, that these are captured, valued and respected. We want to understand these essential messages and support everyone to contribute in whatever way they wish to. Enable Voice brings people’s views together to raise awareness, to educate the island on issues and collaborate with others to help inform policy based on the lived experience.\nOver the next few weeks we will be launching Enable Voice by hosting a number of open sessions where people can join us to find out more. We would urge anyone living with a disability themselves or as a family member, friend or carer to join one of these important first sessions and ask that people let us know of any special arrangement or consideration that would assist them to attend and be able to participate fully.
