SUMMARY:Pop Up Exhibition with local artists June Gould and Ruth Baier-Rolls
DESCRIPTION:ArtHouse Jersey has announced the latest in their pop up art exhibition series, this time with local artists June Gould and Ruth Baier-Rolls.\nYou are invited to ‘pop up’ to Greve de Lecq Barracks on Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 June 2023, between 10am and 5pm to enjoy the art on show in the unique exhibition space.\nJune Gould is a potter, painter and sculptor who trained at Harrow College of Art and Design and Goldsmiths University of London. Her current ceramic work is an investigation into the qualities of pure porcelain. Her oil paintings, using a knife, are equally explorative with colour and texture giving a sense of landscape, allowing for interpretation.\nRuth Baier-Rolls trained and worked during her career as a painting restorer. In recent years she changed her focus to ceramics and became a student of June’s.\nThey will be presenting their work together. Last year Baier-Rolls attended an international ceramics course at ‘La Meridiana’ in Italy (International School of Ceramics, Tuscany). Her pieces are often experimental in approach and execution. They are unique, both functional and nonfunctional.\n‘ArtHouse Jersey Pop Up’ is a series of art exhibitions featuring local artists scattered across the year that take place at our HQ at Greve de Lecq Barracks. It offers visitors the chance to get a better insight into artists’ work and practices and perhaps purchase something special.\nJune Gould said: “The shape of ‘Flow’, is a big influence for my ceramics, particularly in this body of work, big blousy porcelain forms. The paintings have journeyed from social activity and dwellings, to its gradual disappearance, leaving only shadows under the sea, and one dot of hope.”\nRuth Baier-Rolls said: “In this exhibition some of my work is inspired by my recent trip to Sri Lanka. I collected a small amount of clay and red earth from Ella and Ussangoda National Park and used them in different ways in my pottery pieces. Exotic leaves were dried and are imprinted in a platter and a vessel. Contrasting forms, surfaces and colours represent the many different facets found in this wonderful country.”\n
