SUMMARY:Outdoor cinema in St. Helier
DESCRIPTION:In a unique event for Jersey, outdoor cinema specialists are coming to the island to create a walking cinema event.\nThe Hamburg-based artist group ‘A Wall is a Screen’ will visit St. Helier as a highlight of the 13th Parish Festival and invites the audience on an urban adventure full of new perspectives. This open-air film walk consists of projecting short films on walls and other urban structures and is completely free of charge.\nSince 2003, A Wall is a Screen has travelled the world with their concept of guided short film walks. They have performed at some of the world’s top film festivals and will be over in Jersey this May.\nThe project aims to reconquer the urban environment by the art of cinema. For the duration of a selection of short films it will transform the streets and places of St. Helier into a spontaneous open-air cinema.\nBy traveling with a very light and portable projection setup the group is able to screen films on nearly every type of wall and sheds a different light on well-known places. Their work consists of combining the projection and curation of short films with the curation of locations. They might even show you places in St. Helier you may never have noticed before.\nBoth the route and the programme will be a surprise. After the audience has gathered at the first meeting point, they will be guided through town along a well-prepared route to discover St. Helier in the special light of cinema.\nFestival Director Tony Langlois commented: “We are thrilled to secure A Wall is a Screen for Jersey. It’s a very special event that brings cinema to life in a very inclusive and exciting way. We’re really looking forward to inviting all of Jersey’s citizens to join us on this walk through town; it’s free and we know it will be absolutely magical. There will be something for everyone in the programme”.\nThe walk will take place in any weather conditions.\nStarting Point: West’s Centre, St Helier.\n
