SUMMARY:Public meeting to present Guernsey’s tax proposals
DESCRIPTION:The Policy & Resources Committee will hold a public meeting on Monday 28th November 2022 to present its tax proposals to the community.\nThe event will also be live streamed on the States of Guernsey Facebook page.\nMembers of the public who are interested in hearing from the Committee and having the opportunity to ask questions about the proposals, are invited to attend Les Beaucamps School Hall on Monday evening. The presentation will start at 7.30pm and last for about 45 minutes, with a question-and-answer session following immediately afterwards.\nThe Committee will explain its work on the Tax Review, outline the long-term financial challenges the States is facing, and announce the package of measures it is recommending to the States Assembly.\nDeputy Peter Ferbrache, President of the Policy & Resources Committee, said: “There has been much talk in recent years about the financial challenges for the future funding of essential public services, but not enough action to tackle the problem. Much of the focus has been on GST and while I understand why, we are bringing a whole package of measures to the States and it is important that the community understands them in the round rather than discussions being about one element only.\n“The facts are that the package of measures we are proposing is designed to both raise the money the island needs while also making the tax system fairer – and will result in most households being financially better off than they are currently if adopted by the States in full. We want to explain to the community how that will work and hope that people either attend Les Beaucamps School Hall or watch the live-stream when we present our proposals to islanders on Monday.”\n
