SUMMARY:Utmost community sports funday challenge with Guernsey’s sport mascots
DESCRIPTION:The Utmost Community Sports Funday will feature a new mascot challenge on Saturday 3rd September at Saumarez Park.\nMascots, including Darcy the Donkey, Utmost’s Islands Games Team Mascot, GFC’s Roary the Lion, Rugby’s Rocky the Raider and Cricket’s Owlzat the Owl, will compete against each other in a friendly obstacle course challenge to become the Utmost Community Sports Funday champion.\nBefore the challenge takes place, children are encouraged to come along to take part in the warm-up session and help the mascots through the challenge and to show encouragement.\nIn partnership with The Guernsey Sports Commission, the free event will offer over 20 sports for the whole community to try. New additions this year will include skateboarding and gymnastics. Other sporting activities on offer throughout the day will include table tennis, boxing, golf, sailing, squash, volleyball, fencing, football, cricket, cycling, netball, athletics, hockey, rugby, petanque, walking football, bowls, dance and badminton. Regardless of age and ability, all islanders are welcome and will be encouraged to get involved.\nThe event will begin at 12pm, with the mascot challenge taking place at 1pm and the day concluding at 4pm.\nNicky Will, Director of Communications for the Guernsey Sports Commission, said: “We are excited about the addition of the mascot challenge for the Utmost Community Sports Funday this year. This is a great opportunity for the community to come and have fun with their children, get involved with the mascot challenge and get photos with their favourites too.\n“The Sports Commission champion the positive benefits to our physical and mental health that taking part in sport provides, and we want to encourage people of all ages and sporting abilities within the community to come along and have a go.”\nLeon Steyn, Chief Executive Officer, Utmost International Guernsey, said: “This mascot challenge is going to be a great addition to an already popular community day, and we are looking forward to seeing children getting involved. This year, we wanted to bring even more joy and excitement to the Funday. It’s going to be a great afternoon.”\n
