SUMMARY:See behind the scenes at Alderney Airport
DESCRIPTION:A major Community Event has been organised for Islanders to see for themselves recent work on the runway and the scope of the work that may need to be carried out to bring Alderney Airport up to date.\nThe terminal, erected in 1968, is reaching the end of its functional life, the fire station needs updating to ensure continued compliance with the latest regulatory requirements, and the runway, taxiway and apron are in urgent need of significant refurbishment.\nRecent debate around proposals to extend the runway has led some to question the need for such extensive works, although the States of Alderney and the Island’s Chamber of Commerce are committed to future-proofing the Airport in what is known as Option C+.\nThis option would provide a longer runway of around 1,050m at a width of either 23m or 30m with associated improvements to the taxiway and apron. This would necessitate a new terminal building, fire station and airport security arrangements, and was the preferred option among a majority of Islanders attending a public drop-in earlier this year.\nNow Guernsey Ports, which operates the Airport for the States of Guernsey, and the States of Alderney have organised an opportunity for the public to see for themselves the current Airport infrastructure and what is being done to keep it serviceable.\nThe event takes place on Tuesday July 26th (6.30-8pm). Those wishing to attend should pre-register with full name and address by email at ceo@alderney.gov.gg and bring photo ID with them and sign in and out on the evening.\nAlderney’s Chamber of Commerce will sponsor light refreshments at the event.\n
