SUMMARY:Tomorrow’s Leaders Conference 2022
DESCRIPTION:Bringing together aspiring and newly elected student leaders from Jersey’s secondary schools.\nVictoria College is launching Tomorrow’s Leaders, a new student conference bringing together aspiring and newly elected student leaders from all secondary schools across Jersey and providing a forum for discussing and developing young people’s leadership skills.\n“Our aim is to create a unique community of student leaders who are equipped and empowered to move into their new roles for the 2022/23 academic year” said Alan Falle, Head of Sixth Form. “We hope that this is just the start of meeting regularly to share best practices and ideas, and ultimately, deliver the very best in leadership across all our schools.”\nOpened by keynote speaker, Mr Rob Sainsbury (Interim Director General for CYPES) who will talk about lessons he has learned in leadership, the event will cover a range of topics from public speaking to delegation, and from team working to problem solving. Each session during the day will help build the foundation for a core set of skills required in our students’ new roles.\nTo support students in accessing and processing the information provided, they will be given a booklet, specifically prepared for them, to fill out during each session with what they have learned. This is designed to be a valuable reminder of what was discussed during the conference that they can keep with them as they move into their leadership roles.\nHeadteacher, Dr Gareth Hughes said: “I am proud and excited to host the first student conference that focuses specifically on developing young people’s leadership skills. Empowering and developing students, giving them the skillset to be superb leaders within their schools, is a key goal. My colleagues at Victoria College have worked hard to put together an excellent programme for this conference that will encourage good conversations, debate and learning. I am very grateful to the other Island secondary school students and staff for being a part of this inaugural event, and I look forward to furthering the collaborative relationships with them going forward.”\nWhy should students attend?\nThis event will provide students with knowledge and skills to approach their leadership role confidently for the 2022/23 Academic Year. Students will have the opportunity to discuss with other students their ideas and concerns to develop a support network that can be built upon throughout the year.\nTo support students in accessing and processing the information provided, they will be given a booklet, specifically prepared for them, to fill out during each session with what they have learned. This is designed to be a valuable reminder of what was discussed during the conference that they can keep with them as they move into their leadership roles.\nWe look forward to welcoming staff and students from all Jersey secondary schools to Victoria College at 8.30am on Wednesday 6th July.\n
