SUMMARY:IoD Guernsey: Exploring opportunities that public/private partnerships present for Guernsey
DESCRIPTION:The IoD’s February breakfast, sponsored by Butterfield, will explore the opportunities that public/private partnerships present for Guernsey’s infrastructure development plans.\nThe discussion follows the States of Guernsey’s recent announcement that it will debate the establishment of a development agency to facilitate regeneration and infrastructure projects in the Bailiwick, such as the enhancement of the East coast.\nWe will hear insights from specialist alternative asset manager, Gresham House, who will explore the benefits of public/private partnerships, and what key building blocks should be in place to ensure a successful outcome. We will also hear from two local business leaders: David Warr and Rupert Dorey.\nDavid has played a critical role in the project to rebuild the facilities at La Vallette, which is part of the broader Eastern Seaboard Enhancement Programme. The project, due for completion in early summer, is an excellent example of a local public/private partnership - and an exemplar for projects elsewhere on the island.\nRupert has 35 years’ experience in financial markets and has served as a Non-Executive Director for a number of hedge funds, private equity and infrastructure funds, including Chairman of a large, publicly listed investment company: International Public Partnerships.\nWendy Dorey, Chair of the IoD in Guernsey, said: “I am delighted to facilitate such a topical discussion, at a time when Guernsey is considering how to ‘build back better’ post pandemic. The 2020 Scrutiny Management Committee report highlighted the chronic underspend in infrastructure over the last decade.\n“Successful public/private partnerships, facilitated through a development agency, could bring a number of benefits, including direct access to private capital, transfer of risk, and access to the expertise, innovation and agility of the private sector. We look forward to hearing the insights from local and UK experts in this field.”\nThe February breakfast event will take place at the Colborne Room at the OGH at 07:45 -09:00 on Thursday 17th February.\nThe IoD committee respectfully requests that all attendees take a LFT before attending. A certificate for IoD members will be issued after the event.\n
