SUMMARY:Jersey skills show 2021
DESCRIPTION:Following the success of last year’s virtual Jersey Skills Show, the five-day event will be brought to schools and Islanders online for a second year running.\nThe Show, which is sponsored once again by PwC, will run from the 11th to 15th October and will bring together more than 70 exhibitors from 14 different industry sectors through the Jersey Skills Show website. It will also see the return of an exciting and interactive in-person event for school students only.\nLast year, students were given the opportunity to join live industry career sessions where they could hear directly from employers and ask questions during their lunch break. More than 750 students from secondary schools took part. Due to the success of these lunch-time sessions, they’ve been extended to other industries and made more flexible, allowing schools to schedule them into their timetables.\nSchools will have a range of activities organised throughout the week. These will include watching engaging industry videos, taking part in quizzes and activities, as well as career research time on the Jersey Skills Show website.\nIslanders considering a career change are also being invited to join a live industry session, led by local experts, on Tuesday 12 October from 6pm to 7pm. Speakers are from a diverse range of industries including Durrell, Jersey Hospitality Association and PwC.\nOperations Manager for Children, Young People, Education and Skills, Stuart Penn, said: “The Jersey Skills Show took place online for the first time last year but it was well received by both schools and Islanders as it provided greater flexibility and more opportunities to learn about different industries.\n“The Skills Jersey events team has spent the past year upskilling and learning how to present virtual sessions for students and the public. We now host several events virtually including student finance sessions, the Higher Education Fair and Career insights.”\nAbigail McDermott, Head of Marketing at PwC, added: “For some years now, PwC have enjoyed being part of the Jersey Skills Show and this year we are really delighted to again offer our support as sole sponsor of the event, as it’s delivered through a mix of virtual and face-to-face experiences to schools and Islanders.\n“We are really excited to see the line-up that the Jersey Skills team have created, and our PwC volunteers are looking forward to welcoming students in person at Fort Regent next Friday. At PwC, nurturing talent and helping equip young people with the digital skills needed for their professional careers are high priorities for us so we jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with the JSS team again, which is always a worthwhile and enjoyable experience.”\n
